To those who attack the Catholic Church because of Priests and Bishops who have accusations of rape and molesting children and adults alike.. My question is this.. Should we leave Jesus because of Judas?
Let me expound and give you my simple understanding regarding the matter. First, let us not only focus on the lowest ranks of the heirarchy. Might us well let us start at the top which is the papacy.
When Jesus founded his Church in 33AD, he chose Peter who was originally named Simon to lead his Church. From all the 12 apostles, Peter was the LEAST QUALIFIED to be its leader. For one, Peter had anger issues, he denied the Lord 3 times; before the denial he swore to Jesus to follow him even unto death. As you see, Jesus knew all this for he was God, yet despite he chose Peter. Jesus want us to differentiate between the Office and the Person!
We have to differentiate between the Office the Priest functions and the person, personality and mistakes of the priest or bishop. The bishop or priest as a person can error and commit sins, just like you and me! However, it is only through their office and ministry can we have Jesus in the Eucharist! So we must revere and respect their office! We can correct and report them personally for their mistakes, yet we have no right to attack the Church!
To the attackers of the Catholic Church my statement to you is this. Since 33AD and until present the Catholic Church is unbroken. Countless kings, dictators and governments tried to topple the Catholic Church and failed. Jesus promised his church to never be destroyed. So good luck with your aim at bringing down the Catholic Church.
Prayer: Our sweet Jesus, help us to be strengthened in our faith in your Church Lord. May our focus be on You and not on Judas. Amen.
